Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation

Starting in Port Douglas I did the Daintree Rainforest Tour. My choosen tour by Adventure company picked me up (not on time) just to tell me, there is another half hour to wait till the rest of the tourists, which the driver dropped off before in the wildlife habitat or in Port Douglas (depending on the booked tour) are coming back to the bus.

That was not the best start, as I would have preffered a longer stay in the bed anyway. The tour consists furthermore of a short and not really exciting stop at Mossman Gorge (rainforest, no swimstop) and lunch at the Cape Tribulation Beach House, if you have choosen this option for another AUD 27. People staying overnight at Cape Tribulation, leave then the tour to join the next one on the next day again after lunch. The afternoon is filled up with a stop at an ice cream shop (extra payment), the Alexandra lookout and the river tour (1,5 hrs).

A better way to explore the nature north of Cairns is, to rent a car and go on your own leisure and timetable to see the spots without any crowds. Furthermore it gives you the change to do a few stops at beaches and lookouts on the drive up and back and also at some other nice points like the swimming holes near Cape Tribulation. The bus tour is in my opinion not worth the money but the nature up there is wonderful.

However I am really happy for choosing an overnight stay at the beach house, which was ideal for relaxing and enjoying at the beach without to many people there. The restaurant itself offers an mealdeal for backpackers for dinner (AUD 16 with beer or softdrink) which is pretty good, considering the next supermarket is 45 minutes walk away.

There are also some activities to be booked additionally at Cape Tribulation like zip lining or horseriding and so on.

At least but not last, you should be aware of the fact, that there is kind of a crocodile season and with the weather conditions being very hot by the beginning of December we hardly spotted any crocodiles. Therefore it was a lucky coincidence that one, about 2.0 m tall croc was swimming along the beach at Cape Tribulation at beach infront of Beach House in the morning.

Just wander toward the southern end of the beach and a few metres up is a plattform. You can easily do it by your own, alltough Louis from the Beach House is a good guide and shows you a lot of stuff in the forest (e.g. ants that taste like lime).
